Brookville man drowns during fishing trip

BROOKVILLE TOWNSHIP, IN (FOX19) - A Brookville, Ind. man drowned Monday afternoon while on a fishing trip.

Indiana Conservation Officers say Stephen Weber, 58, was fishing with his stepdaughter, Tara Lea, 40, also of Brookville, from a canoe on a private pond owned by a relative near Holland Road in Brookville Township.

The canoe rolled, sending both Weber and Lea into the water. The two were observed struggling in the water by the homeowner, Kevin Noah, who entered the water and assisted Lea, but was unable to locate Weber.

Weber's body was recovered in 8 feet of water just before 3 p.m.

Lea was treated at the scene by Brookville EMS.  She did not require additional treatment.

An autopsy on Weber has been scheduled for Tuesday in Hamilton County, Ohio.

Life jackets were not present in the canoe.
