ST. LOUIS (AP) - Jhonny Peralta's 10th-inning single, his third hit of the game, drove in the winning run to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 6-5 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night. Jay Bruce homered, doubled and knocked in four runs for the Reds, giving him nine RBIs in four games.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) - Johnny Manziel struggled to hit open receivers and added another gesture to his repertoire - a middle finger apparently aimed at the opponents' bench - in the Cleveland Browns' 24-23 loss to the Washington Redskins on Monday night. Neither Manziel nor Brian Hoyer did much to claim the Browns' starting quarterback job.

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) - Making last year's 3-9 finish a distant memory has helped Morehead State focus on contending for the Pioneer Football League championship. That's a major challenge considering last season's streakiness by the Eagles, who wedged a three-game surge between four- and five-game losing streaks.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky coach Mark Stoops has announced that redshirt sophomore Patrick Towles will be the Wildcats' starting quarterback this season. Stoops tweeted out his decision before Monday morning's practice, saying, "this competition has brought out the best in our quarterbacks and I'm confident in Patrick moving our team forward."
