Mike Skurko

Mike Skurko joined the CBS3 Springfield team in 2009 as the weekend meteorologist. He is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and previously worked as a meteorologist at WTOV in Ohio.

Mike attended Penn State University and received a degree in meteorology, specializing in weather forecasting and communications. While attending school, he participated in the Penn State Campus Weather Service, completed two weather internships in Pittsburgh, and helped win a national Telly Award as a graphics producer on the "Weather Whys" segment of the Pennsylvania Cable Network's daily show "Weather World."

A few of the special weather programs Mike produced here on CBS3 Springfield have also received high accolades in New England.  "One Year Later: Remembering the Western Mass Tornado" received the 2013 New England Edward R. Murrow Award and the 2013 Massachusetts/Rhode Island's Associated Press Award for best documentary.  Another special, "2011: A Year of Disasters", received a 2012 Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Award for best special event program.

Mike cheers on all of his hometown black-and-gold teams...the Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers...and continues visiting Penn State each year.  If you can't find him watching a game, chances are he's out on the golf course.  He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, and says he is excited to stay in the Northeast to continue enjoying and forecasting all four seasons.
