FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) -

A multi-car accident sent four people to local hospitals on Wednesday has now turned fatal for one victim.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 4 and Creekside Drive, when the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling westbound on Route 4 ran a red light and hit a 2001 Chevrolet Prizim. Police say the Prizim went off the right side of the roadway and the Silverado crossed the center line and hit three additional vehicles.

Four people were taken to the hospital. Police say the driver of the Prizim's injuries were life-threatening at the time of the accident, and the driver passed away at the hospital. The driver of the Silverado, Robert G. Sams, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Sheila D. Sowell and her 11-year-old daughter were in one of the other vehicles hit, and were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Drivers of the other vehicles struck were uninjured, and were not taken to the hospital.

The name of the person killed in the accident has not been released pending notification of the family.

The accident remains under investigation by the Fairfield Township Police Department.
