NORTHERN KENTUCKY (FOX19) - The Northern Kentucky Department is reporting even more confirmed Shigella cases this summer.
As of June 14, seven more cases have been reported bringing the total to 81. In a typical year 25 cases are reported as a whole.
The Health Department says that children who are not toilet trained are still not allowed in Northern Kentucky pools. This includes Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton Counties.
There is no word on how long the pool restrictions will be in place. The Health Department says they will constantly evaluate the situation and review case data to determine how long the restrictions, or other actions, they need to take to limit the spread of Shigella.
Pools may temporarily be closed in response to a case of Shigella or a fecal accident. The Health Departments says they will ask to pool to close to begin a super chlorination process to kill the Shigella bacteria.
