Anti-bullying institute at Lakota East

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Xavier University is doing its part to fight bullying in the classroom. The university is teaming up with Developing Inclusive Schools, Communities and Organizations or (DISCO) to host an all-day institute at Lakota East.

"Every day, there is a new incident of bullying either locally or nationally where a child was either physically or emotionally damaged, discrimination occurred, or in some cases the student committed suicide," says Tracy DuEst, M.Ed, Program Director of DISCO.

The institute will be devoted to understanding bullying and moving toward solutions. Bullying will be presented as an abuse of power that harms all parties, the bullies themselves, their victims, observers of bullying, educators, families, and community members.

Strategies for self-awareness and action steps that individuals can take to combat bullying will be provided in numerous sessions including:

⎯ Working Effectively with Parents/Caregivers
⎯ Skillful Use of Data in Combating Bullying

⎯ Bully-Proofing the Classroom
⎯ Working Effectively with Parents/Caregivers to Combat Bullying
⎯ Understanding and Combating Cyber-bullying
⎯ Relational Aggression
⎯ Practical and Effective Strategies for Educators in Intervening with Bullying

The cost is $125 per person and special rates are available for groups of five to nine people at $105 per person.
