BROOKVILLE, IN (FOX19) - A Harrison man has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.
Police responded to a home at the Big Cedar Mobile Home Park near Brookville, Ind. on March 12 for a unresponsive 2-year-old girl.
The girl, Sapphyre Putney, was transported to Harrison Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed the next morning at the Hamilton County Coroner's Office. The autopsy revealed the child died of blunt impact injuries to her abdomen resulting in a laceration to her small intestine and a pancreatic injury.
The initial investigation revealed Luis Antonio Gonzalez, 31, the live in boyfriend of Sapphyre's mother, had been babysitting the victim during the overnight hours of March 12 while the mother worked the third shift.
When the mother arrived home from work that morning she found Sapphyre unresponsive in her bed and the 911 call was placed.
A warrant was issued for Gonzalez's arrest Thursday afternoon out of the Franklin Circuit Court charging Gonzalez with Murder and Battery Resulting in Death, Class A Felony.
Gonzalez was arrested without incident Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m. by Harrison police officers in his apartment on Harrison Avenue.
Gonzalez is currently being held in the Hamilton County Detention Center pending extradition back to Franklin County.
