A 12-year-old boy was sentenced to probation for trying to steal a car earlier this year.
The boy was put on probation and sent to a state juvenile treatment center. He could go to a detention facility and serve a term that will range from a minimum of 1 year until his 21st birthday.
Charges against the boy stem from an April incident where police say the boy approached a driver in the parking lot of Kenwood Towne Center and said, "I want your car." The boy displayed what appeared to be the butt-end of a gun, but was later found to be a kitchen knife.
The boy pled guilty to a lesser charged robbery, and an obstruction of justice charged was dropped.
