SPARTA, Ky(FOX19)-FOX19 got to go on a pace car ride along with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pace car driver Brett Bodine hours before the inaugural Quaker State 400 on Saturday at Kentucky Speedway.
This video is a lap at Kentucky Speedway in a Ford Mustang with Bodine driving.
First, Bodine simulates a pit stop by getting to pit road speed--45 mph--and pulling into a pit stall. He then pulls out of the pits and gets onto the track to run a lap, describing the track's surface as he drives.
Heading into turn three for a second time, Bodine waves his hand, letting the cars behind him know he is going to enter pit road. He slows down, but not quickly enough.
"Got a pit road speeding penalty," he said, as the pace car pulled back onto pit road.
Bodine hit about 120 mph on the hot lap around the Kentucky Speedway.
