Police: Man made up panhandler shooting story

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Middletown Police say a man made up a story about being shot by a panhandler as he was sitting on an interstate entrance ramp.

Police say Ryan Johnson, 36, of Hamilton, told investigators he was sitting in the passenger seat of a red Chevy HHR on the State Route 122 ramp to southbound I-75 at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night when he was shot by a panhandler.

Police looked for the panhandler, but could find him.

Police are now saying that Johnson made up the story and that the shooting did not even occur in Dayton. Officers have not released any more information.

Johnson was taken to West Chester Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Anyone with information should call Middletown Police at 513-425-7786.
