LEBANON, OH (FOX19) -

A Warren County judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a former Mason teacher who has been accused of 16 counts of sexual battery involving students.

Last week, attorneys for Stacy Schuler filed a plea in Warren County court that she was not guilty by reason of insanity. Defense attorneys claim that Schuler was impaired and was unable to prevent the students from taking advantage of her.

Tuesday, Judge Robert Peeler said that a mental evaluation may be conducted to determine if that was the case.

State's attorneys are saying that the timing of the mental evaluation is makes it seem the defense is using the evaluation to delay the proceedings.

Schuler's court date, originally scheduled for August 8th, has been delayed as the evaluation is being conducted.
