Possible heat death investigated in Middletown; identity released

The Butler County coroner's office is investigating what could be a heat death in Middletown.

A coroner's office spokesperson says Steven Powell, who is in his 50's, was found Tuesday morning by his mother in an apartment on Roosevelt Avenue. The apartment manager tells FOX19 the man's air conditioning was broken and in the process of being fixed.

The coroner's office says an autopsy will be performed on Thursday to determine an exact cause of death.

According to FOX19 Chief Meteorologist Steve Horstmeyer, the heat index in Middletown on Tuesday reached 116.4 degrees.
