CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The attorneys for Cincinnati Bengal Cedric Benson released a statement Wednesday regarding the alleged assault Benson was involved in over the weekend.
The attorneys say that they recently talked with Thomas Crosley, the attorney for Clavens "Miami" Charles, the former roommate of Benson's who Benson allegedly assaulted. Reportedly, Crosley demanded a settlement meeting between the two attorney groups.
If a settlement meeting was not arranged, Charles was reportedly threatening to talk to the media about the incident.
Benson's attorneys released a statement saying, "There is nothing to settle with Charles. In fact, we intend to confront Charles in defending the misdemeanor charges against Cedric. Cedric did not act without provocation."
The statement continued to say that Benson regrets the events of the weekend, but will not be threatened by extortion.
Cedric Benson was arrested early Sunday morning in Austin, Texas and was charged with assault. Benson is being represented by William David Cornwell Sr. & Sam Bassett.
