Covington Police arrest 72 drug dealers in largest sweep ever

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Covington Police officers conducted a drug sweep to round up 72 suspected drug dealers on Thursday.  The raids follow a seven-month investigation into drug trafficking in the city.

"With the violence that's been going on in our Covington neighborhoods, we're hoping that this drug sweep is gonna give a little bit of relief for our community and have us head in the right direction," said Captain Teal Nally.

Covington officers were assisted by FBI Safe Streets Task Force, DEA Task Force, US Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force, Kenton County Sheriff's Office, Kenton County Jail, the Covington Fire Department and the Commonwealth Attorney'S Office.

Thirty-five of the suspects are wanted for Trafficking in Crack Cocaine.  Eighteen are wanted for Trafficking in Heroin.  The rest are wanted for various drug charges including Trafficking in Prescription Pills and Trafficking in Marijuana.

Police say this is the largest drug sweep in Covington history.
