McConnell: Both parties committed to debt solution

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate's top Republican says congressional leaders are committed to working on legislation that will avert a breach of the federal debt limit that could lead to default on U.S. obligations.

McConnell and the three congressional leaders from both parties met for less than an hour with President Barack Obama at the White House on Saturday.

McConnell said afterward that the president wants to know there's a plan to prevent a national default. McConnell said Democrats and Republicans will work on a way to cut spending and avoid a debt crisis.
