Mother killed by her husband remembered with 2nd annual walk

A Delhi Township mother killed by her husband in 2009 was remembered Saturday with a 5K walk/run.

Kristan Strutz was murdered and dismembered by her husband, John Strutz, in 2009. He was sentenced to 26 years to life in 2010.

"For a long time, [their kids] didn't even talk about their mom and dad in our home," said Karen Broering, Kristan's mother, "And really never asked what happened, especially to their father."

The second annual Kristan's Walk, in honor of Kristan Strutz, was held at Veterans Park in Green Township. The event was set up by Hillebrand Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Bridgetown, the company Kristan was a nursing assistant at for many year.
Friends, family and community members gathered to remember Strutz and show support for her four children.

Kristan's children: 13-year-old Aaron, 8-year-old Arielle, 7-year-old Allie and 5-year-old Abigail started the event with a butterfly release. Butterflies were one of Kristan's favorite things.

Three of the four children have cystic fibrosis and require extensive medical attention. The money raised from the 5K will go toward making sure the children receive the proper care they need.

"As you can see they are very healthy now, but there are continual heath issues that we want to help support them," said Dan Sewer, Administrator at the Hillebrand Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

The children's grandmother hopes that the event will bring happy memories for the kids in the future.
