Shooting injures 12-year-old innocent bystander

A 12-year-old boy is in the hospital after he and his brother get caught in the middle of a shootout Friday night.

Just before 11:00p.m., a 12-year-old and his brother were walking down the 200 block of Fairbanks Avenue in front of the Eatondale apartments.

The two unknowingly walked into a gun battle and the 12-year-old was shot in the face and back. The condition of the 12-year-old boy is unknown at this time.

"Last night they were just running and playing and standing and talking and before you know it here comes somebody pulling up in a car and here come people from that way shooting," neighbor Tamera Spears recanted.

She says he is holding her own kids a little tighter following the shooting.

"It's was her kid last night," Spears said. "It could have also been one of mine too."

Spears says she hopes someone comes forward with information to bring justice for the young boy.

"The police can come, but if nobody 's talking or speaking up about it can't nothing be done," Spears said.

The boy's brother was not injured. Police say the boys were innocent bystanders.

Several cars and the apartment building were hit by bullets. So far, there are no suspects in this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
