Local moms participate in synchronized breastfeeding event

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) -

Local mothers will be participating in a synchronized nursing event to bring awareness about breastfeeding.

Mothers from Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati will be participating in the Big Latch On, America's first synchronized nursing event in multiple locations. The event will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 10:00a.m. at the Edgewood Senior Center at 550 Freedom Park Drive.

Following the event, La Leche Leagues of Northern Kentucky and Clermont County and the Northern Kentucky Breastfeeding Coalition will host the 2nd annual World Breastfeeding We Family Picnic at the park in nearby Freedom Park.

Both events are a part of the local celebration of World Breastfeeding week in August 1-7. World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries.

The group says breastfeeding contributes to the normal growth and development of babies. Those who are not breastfeed are at increased risk of infant morbidity and mortality, adult obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and premenopausal breast cancer and ovarian cancer (both mom and baby).
