Toddler taken to hospital after being found unresponsive in pool

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition after being found unresponsive in a backyard pool.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Michelle Trail, which is near Milford High School and the Miami Hills Swim Club in Miami Township.

Police say Landon Tincher was playing in the backyard with his 6-year-old brother at the babysitter's house. When the 6-year-old could not find his brother, he went in to get the babysitter, who found the toddler in the pool. The babysitter, Kathy Costa, pulled Landon out, started performing CPR and was able to regain a heartbeat.

Emergency crews say when they arrived his heartbeat was faint as they continued performing CPR.

The child was taken via ambulance to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where he is in critical condition

Costa was also watching her own three grandchildren and two other children. Police say Landon and his brother are not related to Costa and police are still working to figure out the relationship and talk with Landon's parents.

"This was an above ground pool so the ladder could be removed or placed in a locked upright position, things like that. This happens way too often," said Sgt. Al Fatute with Miami Township Police.

There is no word on any charges.
