FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) -

Fairfield Township Police are investigating a crash that critically injured one of two people who were riding in the bed of a pick-up truck upon impact.

The truck was leaving the Butler County Fairgrounds just after 9:30 p.m. Friday when it struck a tree at State Route 4 and Theodore Avenue, ejecting two passengers from the bed of the truck onto the highway. Authorities say they don't know the total number of passengers in the truck.

Two medical helicopters were requested by Fairfield Township Paramedics but were unable to fly due to weather conditions. The victims were then taken to nearby hospitals in ambulances on the ground.

A fire department photo of the pick-up bed showed a large cooler with cans of beer in it, most appearing unopened. Investigators didn't say anything about the beer.
