No air conditioning, no problem

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The heat doesn't bother 81-year old Dolly and 77-year old Bobby Ramey. They have gone their whole lives without air conditioning, and it's not because they can't afford it.

"We have never said we wanted air conditioning, never, we have never said that," said Dolly.

In fact, when the couple built their home 30 years ago, Dolly's son offered to pay for air conditioning.

"He tried to get it to put it in our house, we said no," said Dolly.

There home sits at 87 degrees inside. The couple has multiple ways they try to stay cool.

"We go the basement," said Dolly. "We have a fan down in the basement and it's as cool as it can be."

Last year Bobby had surgery to remove cancer in his colon. That's when their daughter Donna, who is a nurse, stepped in, demanding the two sleep in air conditioning.

"She made us come over and stay at night because it was so hot one day," said Dolly. "We had to have a cover on us that night. She had that air on and we had to put a cover on us."

"Then we woke up at 5 o'clock in the morning and came home," said Bobby.
