Police officers caught in gun battle crossfire; searching for suspects

ROSELAWN, OH (FOX19) - A close call for some Cincinnati police officers as they get caught in the crossfire of gunshots.

Just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to Reading and Summit roads in Roselawn near Vito's nightclub for a fight. That's where they pulled up to a gun battle between two groups of people.

As the officers started to get out of their cars, the gunshots were turned on them. They then returned fire. Shortly after, a foot pursuit ensued after two suspects. They were not caught and police continue to search for them.

A third person is being called a person of interest in this case. The individual walked into a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and admitted to being part of the fight near Vito's. It's unclear if that person's injury came from an officer's gun or another person's.

No officers were injured in the incident, but they were placed on paid administrative leave, which is protocol.

Police have recovered a weapon and shell casings. Their investigation continues into exactly what happened. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
