ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - The hotel guests at the Courtyard by Marriott near Erlanger, KY got quite a scare after they were evacuated after a pipe bomb was found in an unclaimed suitcase Tuesday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m., a suitcase was delivered to the hotel in the 3900 block of Olympic Blvd. When motel management couldn't determine who the suitcase belonged to, they opened it.
The hotel management found what appeared to be a pipe bomb and C4 explosive. Management immediately closed the suitcase and carried it outside to a grassy knoll near Olympic Boulevard. The motel was evacuated and Cincinnati Bomb Squad was called. The surrounding roads were closed to traffic.
Before the bomb squad arrived, a motel guest from Smiths Technology out of Warren, New Jersey identified the suitcase as being shipped to him to test airport scanning equipment. Both items were determined to be totally inert.
