Woman in critical condition after car crash with State Trooper

DRY RIDGE, KY (FOX19) -

A Kentucky State Police Trooper was involved in an accident just after 10 p.m. Monday that sent him and the driver of the other car to the hospital.

According to Kentucky State Police, Trooper Jason Ritter, 24, was northbound on US 27 on routine patrol. As Trooper Ritter approached the intersection of Siry Road, a 2009 blue Hyundai Accent driven by Jennifer Zimmer, 29, entered onto US 27 in front of him.

Trooper Ritter tried to stop before hitting the blue Hyundai but was not able to avoid the collision.

Trooper Ritter struck the Hyundai in the driver's side of the vehicle in the northbound lane of US 27.

Zimmer was air cared to University of Cincinnati Hospital and remains in critical condition. Trooper Ritter was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Grant County by cruiser for treatment for injuries and was later released.
