Former Lieutenant's records an issue in upcoming Widmer appeal

Ryan Widmer's appeal attorneys say they will bring the court's decision to exclude former Lieutenant Jeff Braley's employment records in their appeal.

A report from the Ohio Attorney General's Office suggested that Braley, the lead detective in the Widmer case, lied on his application to becomes a Hamilton Township Police Officer. He has since resigned from his position.

Ryan Widmer was found guilty in the murder of his wife Sarah in February of this year. Sarah was found dead in her home back in August of 2008. In his first trial, he was convicted but was later overturned due to jury misconduct. The second trial resulted in a hung jury.

Widmer's attorneys are hoping to get the current conviction overturned and possibly a fourth trial. The filing date for Widmer's appeal is August 29.
