Car break in suspect caught red-handed

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A suspect has been arrested after police caught him breaking into a car red-handed.

Carlton McFarland, 43, was observed breaking into a car Monday morning on Race Street in Over the Rhine. Officers approached McFarland, and he took off, leading police on a short foot pursuit.

Officers eventually caught up with McFarland on Vine Street and found him carrying a bag containing several items taken in recent car thefts. McFarland admitted to breaking into several cars overnight, most of which were in Mt. Adams, Hyde Park and Over the Rhine.

McFarland said he didn't break out any windows, but simply got into cars that had doors unlocked.

He is charged with receiving stolen property and obstructing official business. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
