Visitation Wednesday for fallen NKU Police Officer

MONTGOMERY, OH (FOX19) -

Funeral services have been set for a NKU police officer who was killed in an accident Friday morning.

Officer Roy Sims, 51, was leading a funeral procession on a motorcycle when the accident happened. It happened at the entrance to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Montgomery Road.

Authorities say Officer Sims had just cleared the intersection in front of the cemetery. Sims was along side the hearse, when the hearse turned right and hit him, apparently not seeing him.

Sims was a retired Covington police officer who came to NKU in December 2009.

Visitation will take place at Allison & Rose Funeral Home (5645 Taylor Mill Road) from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, Aug. 11, at Saint Agnes Church, 1680 Dixie Highway, Fort Wright at 11:30 a.m. with burial at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Roy Sims Memorial Fund set up through The Bank of Kentucky.
