MILFORD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
A Butler County Sheriff's deputy discovered a meth lab Friday morning after responding to an unrelated call.
The deputy responded to the 3900 block of Hamilton Richmond Road just after midnight at the request of Ohio State Highway Patrol to make contact with the owner of a truck found with a screwdriver in its ignition.
While on the property, the deputy passed an outbuilding and noticed a strong odor of ammonia. After the truck owner told the deputy there was not an issue with the vehicle, the deputy asked about the outbuilding, which was being used by the truck owner's son, who was not currently at home.
Additional deputies and the sheriff's BURN (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics) Agents responded to the scene. Upon the son's return home, a search was conducted of the building, where a meth lab was discovered.
The son, Charles (Rick) Barger, age 48, was arrested and taken to the Butler County Jail. He is charged with Illegal Manufacture of Drugs (felony 2) and Illegal Possession of Chemicals for the Manufacture of Drugs (felony 3).
