A large yellow diamond seized in a federal drug and money-laundering investigation in northeast Ohio is going on the auction block with the minimum starting bid at $900,000.
The 43.51-carat gem known as the "Golden Eye" belonged to an Ohio businessman convicted in 2007 of money laundering and conspiracy. Federal prosecutors said he was arrested in 2006 when he tried to sell the diamond and an estate once owned by boxer Mike Tyson to an undercover FBI agent for $19.5 million and a boat.
The diamond was seized in the sting operation and later forfeited to the federal government.
The U.S. Marshals Service has contracted with a Maryland-based company to auction the gem online next month. An official with the Marshals Service says the diamond auction has attracted international interest.
