RIPLEY COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - Police in Ripley County say they found a delivery truck with approximately 2,000 pounds of tainted meat during a routine inspection.
On Friday, a 2000 Hino box truck owned by Heng Hua, Inc. was stopped for a routine commercial vehicle inspection on S.R. 46 near Lammers Pike in Batesville. During the inspection, police say an Indiana State Trooper noticed the reefer was not working on the truck. When questioned about the truck's condition, the driver, Alejandro Gonzalez, 41, said it hadn't been working for four days.
When officers from the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division responded to the scene, they found that the temperature of the inside of the truck was approximately 70 degrees.
Police say the truck was loaded with chicken, seafood, pork, eggs, noodles, and mushrooms and the contents were bound for various restaurants in Batesville, Greensburg, Shelbyville, Indianapolis, and Mooresville. The Ripley County Health Department seized the perishable food.
Police say that another truck owned by the same company was stopped Monday. That vehicle also had an improperly working reefer and one case of clams and one case of cauliflower were seized for not being maintained at a safe temperature.
