ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - A fund has been set up for a mother and her 10-year-old daughter who were seriously injured from the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair on Saturday.
Erlanger residents Shannon Berger Walcott and her daughter were seriously injured in Saturday's accident when the stage collapsed and slammed into both of them, according to Walcott's mother Colleen Berger.
Shannon sustained multiple broken ribs and a broken pelvis that will require months of rehabilitation and recovery. Today, Shannon had surgery for her hip fracture and is listed in ICU in stable condition.
Her 10-year-old daughter Jade suffered a head injury requiring emergency brain surgery. She is currently in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. She is listed in critical, but stable condition.
"We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from so many members of the community," said Colleen Berger. "Our family would like to personally thank the incredible doctors, nurses and staff of both Riley Children's Hospital and Wishard Memorial Hospital for their heroic efforts toward aiding Shannon's and Jade's recovery."
"We would also like to acknowledge our sincere gratitude for the emergency personnel and police who reacted so swiftly and efficiently on the scene, and for the heroism exemplified by so many bystanders who assisted those in need, especially the nurse who accompanied our granddaughter in the ambulance to the hospital."
The family says that Shannon is a Realtor, but does not have health insurance. Those who wish to make a monetary donation in order to help the family with their medical bills can do so through the "Shannon and Jade Recovery Trust" through any PNC Bank.
"We ask for your continued prayers for Shannon, Jade, and all those individuals affected by this tragic event, and thank everyone for their respect for our family's privacy during this trying time," said Berger.
