MT. AIRY, OH (FOX19) - Police have identified the victim of a bizarre crash Wednesday morning in Mt. Airy.
The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Robers Avenue and Colerain Avenue.
Police say a Kia Sephia driven by Emmanuel Agyekum, 53 came out of the parking lot of Mt. Airy Elementary School, but didn't use the main exit. The car instead came over a sidewalk and down a small hill between two trees and into traffic on Colerain Avenue, where it collided with a Honda Accord driven by Joseph Wilson, 52, who was traveling southbound on Colerain Avenue.
Police say Agyekum was partially ejected when the car door hit a tree. Agyekum hit his head on the tree and died at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt.
Police are still trying to figure out why Agyekum was partially out of the car and what the car was doing in the parking lot. They are reviewing surveillance video from Mt. Airy Elementary and interviewing a female passenger, Agartha Donkor, 46.
Police say Agyekum was out of the car when it hit Wilson's car. Wilson and Donkor were not injured in the incident and were both wearing seatbelts.
Colerain Avenue was shut down for about four hours between Blue Rock Road and Jessup, but has since reopened. Mt. Airy Elementary School remained open for classes. Several people called 911 to report the accident, and one neighbor attempted CPR, but it was ultimately not enough to save Mr. Agyekum's life.
