Cincinnati Public Schools music teacher passes away

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Public Schools have announced the sudden passing of a music teacher on Wednesday.

Charles Edward Harris was the music educator at Frederick Douglass Elementary School and at Hays-Porter Elementary School. Officials at CPS say that he passed away suddenly Tuesday.

School officials released this statement about Harris:

Charles' love of music began in 1964 in the orchestra at Sawyer Junior High School.

His love of music followed him through high school in both the Withrow High School Orchestra and the Cincinnati Youth Symphony until he graduated from Withrow in 1968. Charles furthered his love of music at Ohio State University, graduating in 1972 with his BA in Music Education. He began his teaching in the Memphis School System and returned to teach in the Cincinnati Public School system since 1992.

In 1989, Charles also received a degree at the Universite' Laval in Quebec, Canada in French.

Not only was he fluent in French, he is also fluent in Spanish and played at the St. Charles Borromeo (Su Casa) in Carthage

Charles Harris was very active in the Cincinnati music community including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. 

Funeral arrangements have not been announced for Harris.
