Special needs little league gets new baseball field

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

The Butler County Challenger Baseball Team is breaking ground for a new facility.

The special needs sports league is building a handicap accessible field for its 170 players.

The team already has one field but is expanding and needs another field to accommodate the additional players.

League president Alan Lakamp says the cost is about $25,000 and came from sponsors and grants from the surrounding community, volunteers and parents.

"Seeing these children that can play this great game of baseball, it just warms my heart to the fact that this is what we give them as an organization for them to play," say Lakamp.

The field will officially start construction next week and should be completed in about two months.
