HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A grass fire in Hamilton quickly engulfed a nearby business early Saturday morning causing significant damage.
Firefighters were called to GRK Manufacturing at 1200 Dayton Street just after midnight. Once on scene, they found a grass fire behind the building that was spreading to the business.
Crews quickly cut off the fire spread and overhauled the interior of the building. But, it was then determined that flames had also made their way up the side of the building and were burning into a three story dust collector system, igniting the sawdust within. Care had to be taken while extinguishing the fire so as not to create a flammable dust hazard and possible subsequent explosion.
The labor intensive fire was finally put out after about two hours. Four engines, a ladder tower, medic unit and shift commander all responded to the fire.
Property damage is estimated between $8,000 and $10,000.
