Bengals hosting Panthers in first pre-season home game
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Bengals fans will get their first chance to see the team in preseason action when the Bengals host the Carolina Panthers Thursday night at Paul Brown Stadium.
The Bengals are winless so far in the preseason, losing to the Detroit Lions and the New York Jets. Carolina is 1-1.
Kick off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are still available through the Bengals website, www.bengals.com.
Head coach Marvin Lewis promises that his team will be ready for the regular season.
"It's a grind, and we are going to find the way," Lewis said after last week's 27-7 loss at the New York Jets. "It's the core 53 guys who will be on the field (Sept. 11) at Cleveland, and I saw some positives from that group (against the Jets). The message for our veterans is, ‘Don't accept mediocrity. Look hard at yourself and keep bringing people along with you.' We're pulling together some new pieces."
Carolina rookie Cam Newton, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 draft, is scheduled to start for the Panthers, and could play as many as three quarters.
The Bengals have one more preseason game at home against the Colts before they open the regular season Sept.. 11 in Cleveland.
