A Springfield man has been sentenced for his role in defrauding elderly residents in Butler County.
Chris Gibbs, 24, will spend three years behind bars.
Prosecutors say Gibbs was one of a group of individuals who would knock on doors of Ohio and Kentucky elderly residents, convincing them their homes or yards were in need of repair. They would collect payment in advance for work that was never completed.
Prosecutors say Gibbs deceived an elderly Butler County man out of more than $18,000 by misrepresenting the need for residential tree repairs and landscaping work. Gibbs is charged with one count of theft.
Gibbs was also indicted on seven counts in Greene County in connection with this scam against the elderly.
