Cincinnati rookie quarterback Andy Dalton led four first-half scoring drives while overall No. 1 draft pick Cam Newton of Carolina struggled in the Bengals' 24-13 preseason victory Thursday night.
Dalton, Cincinnati's second-round pick from Texas Christian, was 11 of 17 for 130 yards and a touchdown, putting together a 107.5 quarterback rating. He didn't play in the second half.
Cedric Benson and Bernard Scott ran for Cincinnati touchdowns.
Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner for national champion Auburn,went 3 of 12 for 43 yards in the first half. That was two yards more than he rushed for in the half, including a 16-yard touchdown scramble. He played the first three series of the third quarter and finished 6 for 19 for 75 yards.
