The Loveland Tigers got out off the gate with a victory by knocking off the Turpin Spartans 42-28 on Friday Night at home.
Running back Graham Peters scored from 25-yards less than four minutes into the game to get Loveland (1-0) on the board and the Tigers never looked back. It would be the first of five touchdowns of the year for Peters, who appears to be a breakout candidate. The junior finished the night with 152 yards and five touchdowns on 27 carries to lead Loveland.
The Tigers' defense bent, but did not break holding Turpin scoreless during the final 17 minutes of the game and coming up with a pair turnovers.
Ryan Millikin tried to breathe life in to the Spartans at the start of the second half when he followed up a 2-yard touchdown run with 75-yard punt return for a touchdown just two minutes later as Turpin erased a 20-7 halftime deficit by taking a 21-20 lead.
Quarterback Connor Jansen picked up 105 yards on 12 carries and completed 9-of-19 passes for 114 yards and a TD for Turpin (0-1) in the loss.
Loveland stays at home next week as they host Lebanon as the FOX19 Friday Prep Rally makes its way to Tiger Stadium. Meanwhile, Turpin will look to right the ship as they welcome Wyoming.
