Weekend Union, KY crash turns fatal

The Boone County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a crash that happened just after 8 a.m. Sunday that has turned fatal.

The accident happened at U.S. 42 and Mt. Zion Road in Union, Kentucky.

Vance Coyle, 32, of Erlanger was driving his 2004 Ford Explorer northbound on U.S. 42 in the curb lane approaching the intersection of Mt. Zion Road. Timothy Lane, 32, of Covington, was on westbound Mount Zion driving a 2006 Audi A4, waiting at the traffic light.

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, the initial investigation revealed the light changed to green for Mount Zion Road traffic and Lane started into the intersection to make a left turn onto southbound U.S.-42. Coyle didn't stop and collided with Lane.

Lane was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio via Air Care where he was pronounced dead.

Coyle was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence for minor injuries.

The collision is under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department Accident Reconstruction Unit.

At this point it is believed Coyle fell asleep at the wheel. Both drivers were utilizing their seat belts.
