Sewer line break in Colerain apartment complex affects nearby creeks

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Hamilton County Public Health is telling Colerain Township residents to avoid certain creeks following a sewer line break at an apartment complex.

The sewer line break happened at the Northgate Meadows apartment complex on Arborwood Drive in Colerain Township. According to Hamilton County Parks Officials, a privately owned sewer line in the Winton Lake watershed collapsed.

While officials say there is no reason to believe that the water quality in Winton Lake has been impacted, people need to use caution when visiting nearby creeks to prevent becoming contaminated.

Officials say the creeks to avoid are located:

  • Between Loralinda Drive and Marino Drive
  • Between Niagra St. and Hyannis Drive
  • Between Adams Road and Magdalena Drive and leading into Winton Lake.

"Contact with untreated sewage poses a significant health risk," said Health Commissioner Tim Ingram. "Hamilton County Public Health works daily to prevent disease and protect people from such environmental hazards."
