Severe weather plans in place for riverfest

COVINGTON, KY (AP) - In the event of severe weather Sunday, Northern Kentucky officials are coming up with a plan to keep people safe along the riverfront.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to be on the riverfront for the Cincinnati Bell - WEBN Fireworks.

Safety personnel will be aware of potential hazards and direct people to the appropriate shelters on the Northern Kentucky side of the river in case of severe weather.

Covington Police say those structures include:

1) River Center / Embassy Suites Garage

2) Cincinnati Marriott Garage

3) Kenton County / Tank Bus Garage

4) Kenton County Justice Center

5) Northern Kentucky Convention Center

6) Kenton County Administration Building

The guidelines officials will follow:

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch - means conditions are favorable for severe weather, continue normal activity, but monitor weather conditions closely.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning - means to seek shelter and monitor radio or television. Follow all of the above instructions until the storm passes

A Tornado Watch - means there is a possibility of one or more tornadoes in your area. Continue normal activity but monitor weather conditions closely.

A Tornado Warning - means a tornado has been sighted and may be shelter immediately!

A Flash Flood Watch - means that heavy rains may cause flash flooding in certain areas.

A Flash Flood Warning - means that flash flooding is occurring or imminent on certain streams or in designated areas.
