Xavier University named 2012 Military-Friendly School
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Xavier University has been named by G.I. Jobs magazine as a Military Friendly School for 2012. This is the third straight year for Xavier to receive this recognition.
The complete 2012 Military Friendly Schools list is at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com. It honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students. The 1,518 schools' common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience.
"It is a great honor for Xavier to be recognized as one of the nation's leading military-friendly schools," says Nathan Davis, director of the Office of Veterans Affairs. "We have enabled student veterans to build upon their strengths, talents and experiences as they earn undergraduate and graduate degrees, while integrating an understanding of Xavier's mission and Jesuit tradition. Xavier has the best resources, support, and the most dedicated faculty and staff. As more veterans return home from service, we will continue to seek new ways to best serve those who have served."
Schools on the list also offer additional benefits to student veterans such as on-campus programs, credit for service, military spouse programs and more. Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.
The list was compiled through extensive research of more than 8,000 schools nationwide polled. This year, G.I. Jobs surveyed student veterans for the first time, providing prospective military students with insight into the student veteran experience at an institution based on peer reviews from current students. Student veteran survey feedback is at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com/2012 list. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB).
"The Military Friendly Schools list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience," says Michael Dakduk, Executive Director for the Student Veterans of America. "Nothing is more compelling than actual feedback from current student veterans."
