Hamilton County Sheriff Simon Leis announced Thursday that he will not be running for re-election in 2012, and will be stepping down at the end of his term.
The 77-year-old sheriff has held the position since 1987. Before that, he was the county prosecutor for 12 years.
On the Bill Cunningham show on Thursday, Leis hoped that Hamilton County Chief Deputy Sean Donovan would replace him following the election.
