A new winner was crowned "Most Authentic German Mascot" of Oktoberfest Zinzinnati during Friday's 5th annual Running of the Wieners.

'Cookie,' a 3-year-old dachshund, beat out 100 other dachshunds to win the prize. She ran the 100-foot race in 3.92 seconds. Cookie, of Loveland, receives a prize-pack from Pet Wants at Findlay Market, the gold chicken hat and a case of Samuel Adams Beer (for her owner).

This is the third time Cookie has participated in the event, but the first time to win, said owner Krista Barker.

The 5th Annual John Morrell Running of the Wieners kicked off a full weekend of activities at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, the largest Oktoberfest in the country and second largest in the world.

Following the wiener dog race, human contestants donned their lederhosen for the Gemuetlichkeit (ga-mute-li-kite) Games and participated in the Beer Stein Races and the Keg Barrel Roll.

An Oktoberfest sneak peak will take place until midnight on Friday. It will include German beer, food and music starting at 5 p.m.

Hours the rest of the weekend are Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday at 1:30 p.m., former Reds great Joe Morgan will lead the annual World's Largest Chicken Dance.

Later on Saturday, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the top-ranked competitive eater in the world, will return to Oktoberfest to defend his crown at the World Bratwurst Eating Championship.

In 2010, Chestnut consumed 42 bratwurst in 10 minutes. Other competitive eaters vying for the title of World Bratwurst Eating Champion will be Major League Eating's #8-ranked eater in the world Tim "Gravy" Brown of Chicago, #17-ranked Aaron "A-Train" Osthoff of Dubuque, IA and #38-ranked Damien Boykin of Atlanta, GA. Sean Mulcahey, a rookie from Cincinnati, will also join the table seeking to upset this field of top gurgitators.

The bratwurst eating competition takes place at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Oktoberfest takes place on six blocks of Fifth Street, from Race Street to Broadway in Downtown Cincinnati. Admission is free. Parking is available in the Fountain Square garage for $5.
