COVINGTON, KY (AP) - The mayor of Covington said he plans to retire this month after complaining about frustrations with other city officials, which he said have caused him health problems.
Mayor Denny Bowman said on Friday that his retirement takes effect at the end of the month and he was going on vacation starting on Monday.
He had announced previously that he might not seek re-election. He said he felt left out of discussions about whether the Internal Revenue Service would keep several thousand jobs in the city and had disagreements with the city commission on community grants.
He thanked voters for supporting him during four elections as mayor. It was not immediately clear whom city commissioners might name to replace Bowman.
