ZINZINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the top-ranked competitive eater in the world, defended his title at the second annual World Bratwurst Eating Championship at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati.
Chestnut consumed 35 bratwurst in 10 minutes.
A total of 10 contestants ate a total of 170 bratwurst. The contestants competed for a prize of $2,000 and a golden Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati chicken hat.
Tim "Gravy" Brown came in second place with 31.5 bratwurst, followed by Aaron "ATrain" Osthoff with 25 and "Wild" Bill Myers with 15.
Chestnut, who counts asparagus and pizza among his numerous eating records, won his fifth-consecutive hot dog eating title at the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island.
At the 2010 World Bratwurst Eating Championship, Chestnut consumed 42 bratwurst in 10 minutes.
"I didn't get into rhythm today," said Chestnut.
Chestnut consumed 8,750 calories in 10 minutes. In total, 42,500 calories were consumed by the competitors.
More than 80,000 bratwurst are eaten each year at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati. If placed end-to-end, they would be the length of 29 Empire State Buildings.
The World Bratwurst Eating Championship is sanctioned by Major League Eating and the International Federation of Competitive Eating.
Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati is the largest Oktoberfest in America. It was held Sept. 17-18 in downtown Cincinnati.
