CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hundreds of burn survivors and their families will walk Wednesday to remember those who have lost their lives to burn injuries.
Burn survivors and their families will be joined by burn care professionals and fire service members in the Walk of Remembrance.
The event is hosted by Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors and Shriners Hospitals for Children and will be held at the Hyatt.
The walk will not only be held to remember those who have died of burn related injuries, but also for specific actions to prevent future burn related deaths.
One of the event's speakers, Chief Ron Siarnicki, Executive Director of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, will speak about his support of Initiative 15, which advocates the strengthen the enforcement of fire codes, and the installation of home fire sprinklers. Many of the other event speakers supported the importance of home fire sprinklers.
Every year more than 500,000 people receive medical treatment for burn injuries and 83,300 of those are under the age of 14.
