UC interim athletic director Bob Arkeilpane says UC remains pro-active while college football continues to realign itself into new conferences.
"It's a very fluid situation," said Arkeilpane. "Nobody knows what the next step is going to be, but we're certainly at the table in our discussions."
Arkeilpane says UC's school president meets regularly with presidents and athletic directors of other Big East schools and indicated the recent departures of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC didn't "catch them off guard."
Arkeilpane says talk of four "super conferences" of 16 teams is premature and speculation. The AP reported Monday the Big East is in talks with the Big 12 to possibly merge the remaining teams after current realignment is finished. Arkeilpane indicated UC would like to stay with the group of remaining teams in the Big East.
"In any realignment, UC is going to be part of the major college football landscape."
