A former county elections board director in Butler County has been sentenced to five years' probation for stealing from the local Democratic Party.
Butler County prosecutor's spokesman Jerome Cook says Tippi Slaughter also received 60 hours of community service at her sentencing Wednesday in Hamilton.
The former Butler County Board of Elections director pleaded guilty in August to theft in office for stealing $1,700 from the county Democratic Party when she was its treasurer.
Slaughter will have to serve 18 months in prison if she violates probation. She also must get a job and be assessed for drug and alcohol addiction.
Slaughter was indicted in June and fired by the elections board.
Democratic officials said she paid the money back before resigning as party treasurer. Her attorney declined comment Wednesday.
